03/02/2026

With the close of the submission deadline for the eleventh edition of Rafa Nasiri Annual Award for Graphic Arts on 31 December 2025, the esteemed jury would like to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to all the artists who participated with their graphic print works. The committee expresses its pleasure at the continued activity of the Award and the high level of distinction demonstrated by the works submitted, wishing all participants continued creativity and success.
The esteemed Jury members:

Dia Azzawi – painter and printmaker
Ziad Dalloul – painter and printmaker
Modhir Ahmed – painter and printmaker

reviewed and discussed the works submitted by the artists from Egypt, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq, the artist Mohamed Rahim from Egypt was selected as the winner. This selection was based on what the jury found in the artist’s works: “using one of the oldest printing techniques: woodcut engraving, with mastery and full command of the tools, as well as the simplicity of subject matter and symbolism without overburdening it. This approach recalls the original function of woodcut engraving as it appeared in its earliest periods, in prints and books before the advent of photography.

Mohamed Rahim, painter and printmaker (born 16 September 2000) presently works as assistant lecturer at Luxor University. He studied and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Luxor University (2018–2023). He has participated in international exhibitions and exhibited in various venues in Argentina, Spain, Tunisia, and Córdoba, and held several solo exhibitions, has received a number of awards from prominent international institutions and held many solo exhibitions. His art works reflect a strong passion for traditional printmaking techniques. His works are held among the collections of several national museums and private art collectors.

The artistic vision of our distinguished artist is based on employing engraving and printmaking: “as a means of expressing the human condition, especially women, as bearers of memory, identity, and emotion. His works draw inspiration from heritage, ornamentation, and complex human relationships, through which he seeks to create a visual dialogue between past and present. Alongside his interest in heritage as a living, ever-renewing state, he uses engraving and printing techniques to re-formulate these elements into contemporary compositions that combine reduction and detail, black and white, with the aim of creating a visual dialogue between past and present, and between the local and the universal human experience.”

Being pleased to convey the congratulations of the jury members to the winning artist, I would also extend my deepest thanks and appreciation to the members of the jury for their generous support of the Award and for enriching it with their valuable proposals aimed at advancing it to broader horizons. My thanks and appreciation also go to all the artists  who submitted her/his works to this edition, which was generally distinguished by brilliant artistic contributions.
